WEST SEATTLE, Wash. — On a beautiful West Seattle afternoon, in the club’s third season and on a memorable Mother’s Day home opener, Alex Mejia (#9) scored twice and added an assist as West Seattle Junction FC opened the 2026 USL League Two season with a dominant 4–0 win over the Tacoma Stars on Sunday night at Nino Cantu SW Athletic Complex.
Mejia put Junction FC ahead less than five minutes into the match after Taisei Iida (#8) flicked a loose ball into his path. His shot took a deflection and found the back of the net to ignite the home crowd.
Mejia doubled the lead in the second half when Osato Enabulele (#21) drove down the wing and delivered a precise cross into the box. Mejia met it with a diving header, directing the ball into the net for his second goal of the night.
Midway through the second half, Tacoma Stars were reduced to 10 men after #53 was shown a red card for violent conduct. Junction FC capitalized on the advantage and added two more goals to put the match out of reach. Junction FC extended the lead to 3–0 when Connor O’Keefe (#4) met a pinpoint corner kick from Kaydin Wall (#22) and directed a perfectly placed header into the net.
The final touch came when Mejia delivered a precise pass to Iida, who calmly slotted home the fourth goal to put the icing on the cake.
Backed by a passionate crowd on SW Thistle Street, the pounding drums of the supporters, and the unmistakable voice of James Woollard on the microphone, Junction FC delivered a memorable opening night atmosphere in West Seattle.
A special congratulations goes to new Head Coach Mike Mata and his coaching staff for an outstanding debut and a statement victory to open the 2026 campaign.
Junction FC returns to action on Wednesday, May 20, with a road match in Portland against Portland Bangers before returning home on Sunday, June 7, to face Midlakes United at Nino Cantu SW Athletic Complex.
